Incredible Indian cow needs to be protected – Happy Gopashtmi
” Gavo vihwasya matarah ” — Cow is the mother of the whole world.
Serving cows could even lead one towards Self-realization. One could indirectly serve cows just by consuming cow-milk, as once cow-milk becomes essential part of one’s diet; it certainly necessitates service and protection of cows. Not only cow-milk, but even curd & ghee (made out of cow-milk), cow-urine and cow-dung too have significance in Hindu scriptures like Padama, Agni, Bhavishya and Matsaya Puranas. The elements present in cow-milk are not present in that of goat or buffalo.
Venerable saint Shri Asharamji Bapu (hereinafter “Bapuji”) also gives great importance to the cow-service. Bapuji gave shelter and in effect the gift of life to thousands of cows that were being taken to slaughter houses. These cows are being fed, cared and protected in the Gau-shalas (cow-shelters) without donations and such shelters have been made self- dependent by making organic products out of cow-dung, cow’s urine and other cow-products. The food is arranged for cows at many places on festivals like ‘Gop-ashtami’ under Bapuji’s auspices. Bapuji has not only given precepts on service to cow, but has also practiced it in his life and in-turn, set an example before humanity.
In 1944, a case about how a cow-care-taker was protected by cows was reported in Kalyan (a spiritual magazine), which mentioned about a young boy Gumaan Singh, who used to graze cows in village Mazevala, Ajmer (Rajasthan), where cows had made a circle around their protector and started bellowing & threatening the animal with their horns, when hyena tried to attack him; and ultimately saved the milkman.
According to Acharya Vagbhata in ‘Ashtang Hridya’:
‘Gavyam to jeevaniyam rasayanam’ – Cow-milk is the superior as compared to other animals’ milk.
In medieval era Arabian, German and Russian doctors realized the medical significance of cow-milk. American doctors utilized the medical properties in curing patients. John D. Rockefeller, one of the world’s richest men, once ailing; was cured by cow-milk.
Acharya Sushrut interpreted cow-milk as vital energy provider and the best rasayan.
‘Pravarm jeevaniyam ksheermuktam rasayanam.’
As it contains protein, carbohydrate, higher grade lactose sugar, minerals, fats etc.; it contains much more amino acids as compared to cereals, grains, vegetables, eggs and flesh etc. Milk fat is easily digestible, and thus satiates the need of 75%calcium, 40-60% vitamins in children while 30% in youngsters when consumed 250 gms (1 glass of milk) on daily basis. Strontium is present in cow-milk, which suppresses the atomic radiation effects. Cerebrocides present in milk helps in brain and intellectual development. MDGI Protein present in milk protects it’s consumers from cancer.
Cow is the only animal to have ‘suryaketu naadi’ (the channel or duct for vital air) because of which it can easily absorb specific sun rays that stimulate its aforesaid duct (naadi) in such a way that it secrets particularly pale substance known as ‘swarnkshar’, which makes a person intelligent, strong & powerful and leads one towards healthiness & longevity, in turn a person becomes ‘sattvik’ too. Only Indian cow is considered beneficial in this regard, not Jersey or Holstein or other hybrid cows. Also, pasteurized/dairy processed milk does not contain ‘sattvik’ and nutritious elements.
Milk, if boiled at high flame and for long, becomes deficient of nutrients. It’s more beneficial if taken without sugar, else body’s calcium quantity is supposedly reduced and cough-levels are increased in the body. Milk with jaggery (gud) is prohibited, as it may cause skin problems and diabetes. But it should not be consumed by those suffering from asthma, dysentery, diarrhea, stomach-ache, fever and skin diseases. Consumption of milk with fruits, cereals, sour & salty food and non-vegetarian diet is restricted. It is recommended to keep at least 2 hours’ difference between the intake of meals and milk.
Milk is recommended for all age groups and it suppresses ‘tridosha’. It must be consumed after creating foam by sipping it slowly, and not at once. Milk obtained from black cow is significant as it suppresses pneumatic air and thus helps in vata shaman. Cow’s dharoshan milk (i.e. fresh milk) is considered as equivalent to nectar.
‘Dharoshan amritopamam, Sadhya shukrkram dharoshnam pyah’
According to Devraha Babaji:
The cow is another form of religion. Cow slaughter has deformed the concept of religion in independent India. We may be able to keep our religion alive by precluding cow-slaughter.
According to late saint Ramsukhdasji Maharaj
It is auspicious to see cow before starting for a journey. Seeing cow, cow-feeding, shadow of cow, air that touches the cow, all are considered holy and thus good omen.
According to late saint Ramsukhdasji Maharaj
Grass of the field satiates the need of cows whereas cow dung and urine are utilized as fertilizers. Chemical fertilizers make the land of field unproductive. This situation does not occur in case of cow dung and urine based fertilizers. This has attracted foreigners towards implementing Indian techniques of agriculture. Similarly, physical energy of oxen should be used in farming, rather than going for tractors, as farming by oxen grows sattvik grains.
Cow’s milk and other by-products are better than those of other animals:/h4>
In an experiment with soldiers’ horses (usually cow-milk is given to those), those were fed with buffalo’s milk and when actually needed at a river -crossing, these horses sat in the midst of river, as per the nature of buffaloes; which proves that buffalo – milk makes one dull & inactive, while cow’s milk gives vital energy & strength. Camel also gives milk but curd, butter etc cannot be formed out of it. On top, its milk is considered “tamsik” and leads one towards catastrophe/degradation. Though goat’s milk is easily digestible, but is not that healthy in comparison to cow’s milk.
Ghee produced out of cow’s milk is at par with nectar. Nymph Urvashi, when visited the king Pururava, she preferred consuming cow-ghee to nectar.
“Ghritam me Veera bhakshyam syan”.(Srimad Bhagvat 9:14:22)
Why cow protection is not taken seriously:
Cow’s flesh, blood etc. are used in making various allopathic medicines. People who consume such medicines have malign thoughts and therefore, do not keep high regard for cows and thus don’t even bother about their protection.
Prevention of bad odour in Environment:
Cow dung and urine are used to control bad odour in the environment. Cow’s dung is considered pious, which is not the case with other animals. Polluted places can be cleansed by applying cow dung and urine before worship, cooking in rituals and after keeping aside patients or corpse from a particular place.
Radiation controlling capacity:
Cow-dung smeared houses are considered to be comparatively safer from radiations’ bad effects. Cotton clothes, after soaking in cow dung solution and cleaning thereafter, if worn, become resistant to radiation.
Cow-dung soaks water from land abundantly and therefore, land remains humid for more days, which in turn improves land’s quality.
Cow -dung ashes and urine are less expensive, accessible and safe pesticides. Such ashes are used in growing various vegetables. It checks on termite and flies. Gas released after burning dry-dung destroys various bacteria.
According to Dr. Macferron
Cow’s dung has unique properties of pesticides that no other pesticide may have. It also destroys bacteria of T.B.
Cow-dung’s smoke creates less pollution and keeps the flies and the mosquitoes far away. Carbon-di-oxide present in this smoke is utilized by plants and in return, they produce oxygen. Coal produces carbon-mono-oxide, diesel, petroleum, and kerosene produces sulphur-di-oxide and nitrogen di-oxide which are harmful for both mankind and vegetation.
60 crore population of India already consumes it as fuel and we can save other fuels like wood, coal and petroleum products by using this. Cow-dung-fire is light, stays longer and is isothermal too. It is considered best in making essences, juices (asav and satv), bhasms (ashes) and also increases the quality of such products when compared to those coming out in case of gas, electricity, coal etc.
In hilly areas people make barriers of soil and cow-dung to stop the flow of water source. Thus, in cow-dung-made reservoirs’, water is free from bacteria and also kills cholera bacteria. Polluted water, in which the fish start dying, is purified by using cow dung and nurtures the fish.
Mere 10 gms of ghee made out of cow-milk purifies quintals of air through ‘havan’. Smoke produced during ‘havan’ does not cause pollution, but kills harmful bacteria. Gau-chandan (ashram made) sticks and incenses accompanied with cow-ghee are used to purify the air.
It is said that the person who consumes holy basil and cow-milk everyday is less likely to suffer from diseases like cancer. Though, the difference between intake of milk and holy basil should be at least two hours. Add water equal in quantity to that of cow-milk and boil it at low flame by adding pure gold and silver ornaments till the actual quantity of milk is gained. Indian cows have ‘Swarnkshar’ that gets increased by the above-said procedure. This increases immunity in old age persons, though beneficial for all.
‘Dughdhkalp’ made of cow-milk is also used in revitalization of body. Cow-milk & ghee do not increase cholesterol level and instead dissolve obstructions in arteries. ‘Panchamrit’ and ‘panchgavya’ are also important in this series. Persons suffering from chronic diseases are recommended to touch the cow’s body with affection, which helps them recover positively within 4-5 months, according to Bapuji.
Government had plans in 11th five year scheme to open new 550 slaughter houses worth INR 3,500 crores. Also, it’s a well known fact that India exports flesh /beef to Muslim, Western and European countries. In foreign countries cows are fed with flesh to increase the body mass. Thousands cows became insane in this process and were killed. Indian cows are not fed with such diet and therefore these do not suffer from such diseases. Due to increasing demand of Indian beef, many people have started business of slaughter houses.
According to scientific research:
Sighs of cow-slaughter invites natural calamities like earth quake etc., but administration hardly lends an ear towards to such sighs.
According to Bapuji:
Guru is comparable to cow, as the former gets the Self-Realization and the Supreme Knowledge by wandering here & there, facing numerous difficulties and pains during meditation etc. – as a cow wanders for fodder. That fodder, as milk is ready for calves- like disciples without having them to move or do hard work and thus they can attain that Supreme Knowledge by sitting in Satsang hall or even by internet throughout the world.
By applying cow-feet’s dust on forehead, one becomes fortunate and the destiny starts favoring such person.
Thus, on the occasion of Gop-ashtami (the specific day made by Lord Krishna to serve cows), that falls in the holy month of Kartika and got celebrated last week by Bapuji’s saadhaks all over, we resolve to serve the cows and not allow anyone for cow-slaughter. In Bapuji’s auspices many such programs are conducted wherein even non-lactating cows are served in various ashrams, as their urine and cow-dung can make such cows’ self-dependent.
Hence, awareness must be created in this aspect for not abandoning the non-lactating cows.
