Happy Raksha Bandhan – But is it really a happy for an innocent incarcerated saint and His disciples ?
Raksha Bandhan is a Hindu festival, which is celebrated throughout India. It strengthens the bond of love between brothers and sisters. It is celebrated on the full moon of the month of Shraavana (Shravani Poornima) and is also called Naariyali Poornima for on this day, sailors offer coconuts to sea, thus showing devotion towards Sea-Goddess for their safe journey.
In general perspective, it is a festival of brothers and sisters, where sisters tie the silk thread (specially designed or adorned) called Rakhi on their brothers’ wrist, praying for their wellbeing & long life and wishing for the brothers’ protection from all evil influence(s); on the other hand, brothers promise to protect their sisters from all odds. This undoubtedly strengthens the bond of love amongst siblings. This festival of tying wrist band or amulet is called Rakhi or Raksha-Bandhan i.e. the bond of protection.
Almost everyone knows how Lord Krishna and Drapuadi, Demon King Bali and Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Yama (Lord of death) and Yamuna made this festival more significant. Lord Yama even declared that whoever gets a Rakhi tied from his sister and could promise her protection, will become immortal.
But unfortunately, nowadays, this holy & pious festival has become a day to show-off and exchange gifts. Sisters prefer to purchase expensive Rakhis for their brothers while brothers prefer to give expensive gifts to their sisters.
Asharam Bapuji (endearingly called Bapuji) has reiterated the significance of the Rakshabandhan and recommended to tie Vedic Rakhis on the right wrist of the brother / the Guru in a very simple and elegant manner. Vedic Rakhi is made of 5 basic elements, each of which signifies something that a sister would genuinely wish for her brother and a disciple would wish for the Guru. The constituents of Vedic Rakhi, with their respective significance are mentioned as under:
- Durva (a kind of grass):- As the grass spreads in the field, so be the expansion of the brother’s clan and virtues; and for the Guru, His benevolent acts be disseminated by His followers everywhere.
- Akshat (rice) (i.e. अ + क्षत), meaning, that could never get destroyed; thus, it gives symbolic protection to the brother from evil influences so that he remains immortal.
- Saffron (केसर): Saffron indicates vigor & strength that a sister asks and wishes for her brother or a disciple wishes for the Guru.
- Sandal: This denotes peace of mind while making any decision, which is wished for the subject.
- Mustard seeds: These seeds are pungent in flavor, thus indicating the sister’s or a disciple’s wish that the subject’s behavior & character should be such that one could eradicate malafide-intentions of the society.
Thus, by wrapping all the aforesaid ingredients in a piece of red or yellow silk cloth, and by tying the same with a thread, Vedic Rakhi is prepared; which in turn, also gives health benefits and protects one from seasonal change.
This very wrist band of Vedic Rakhi was tied by Kunti to her grandson Abhimanyu during the war of Maharbharata and it is said that Abhimanyu died only after his Vedic Rakhi wore out during the war.
While tying the Rakhi, a mantra is chanted to commemorate demon king Bali, which is quoted as under (with its respective English transliteration):-
“येन बद्धो बलि राजा, दानवेन्द्रो महाबलः
तेन त्वाम रक्षबध्नामि, रक्षे माचल माचल: ।।
“Yena baddho Bali raja, daanvendro mahabalah;
Tena twam rakshbadhnami, rakshe maachal maachalah.”
— Tying Rakhi by chanting the aforesaid mantra assures well-being of the whole family.
Rakhi is not tied during Bhadra-Kala and this year, the auspicious time to tie Rakhi is after 1:53 PM IST on Aug 29th, 2015. It is said that Rakhi tied during bhadra kala is not beneficial for the brother/ concerned person and may do harm to one’s life.
Thousands and thousands of Rakhis were received by the administration in the Jodhpur jail premises for the revered saint and Guru Asharam Bapuji last year. This year, even after His declaration that Rakhis should not be sent to Him; many Rakhis are reported to have been received.
Isn’t it a mockery of our judicial system, where a criminal (who is a cine star, a Bollywood actor) imprisoned for keeping armaments and promoting terrorism during 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, is liberated every now and then on parole?
It is paramount of injustice where innocent Sadhvi Pragya imprisoned in fake case is not allowed to see her mother for years, while the convicted cine star is liberated on parole for 5th time in the span of 29 months and that too for 30 days, which may be extended for further 30 days for his daughter’s nasal surgery (which is already reported to have got performed on her).
Here is the chart of the aforesaid criminal’s releases on parole:-
May, 2012:-146 days
January 2014:-90 days
October, 2014:-14 days
December, 2014:-14 days
August 2015:- 30 days
According to Maharashtra Prison Manual, a prisoner can be released on parole for maximum 90 days in a year
(as per the discussions going on over whats-app sms group).
So, as per the laws, a convicted criminal can be given parole many times, but an innocent saint, like Bapuji, who has always been into spreading the message of humanity, has been put behind the bars mercilessly ! Sounds strange !
It is about 2 years since He is embroiled in false and baseless case. When will He be back amongst us, as He used to be during Rakshabandhan, where His disciples used to offer Him Rakhi in His chamber, at times, even chased His car or His movable transparent chamber known as Jogi Ki Gaadi.
A saint, who imparted knowledge of Vedanta amongst us, is a sore in the eyes of the conspirators. When will these conspiracies end? When will we get justice? When will we feel protected in refuge of our revered saint? WHEN? The answers vest in the judgment of judiciary. We want an affirmative judgment by acquittal of our adorable saint Bapuji. NOW!
